It has been 2 years since pico-projectors entered mass production in the second half of 2008. For this time frame, the more popular applications still confined to portable standalone pico-projectors and pico-projector modules embedded in portable electronic devices. However, power consumption issue still put strict restriction on luminance and resolution, thus hindered pico-projectors from penetrating more end markets. Today, luminance of a typical pico-projector without external power supplier can hardly transcend 10 lumens with resolution sticking to VGA level. In this case, pictures of 20 inches or above are hard to project even in a dark room, though some pico-projector makers boast their products being able to project pictures with size of 50 inches or above.
