The growth of global pharmaceutical market in 2016 was negatively impacted by many environmental factors, including increasing uncertainty in political situations, de-creasing investment and rising anxiety over terrorist attacks. The global economy in 2016 was significantly weaker than that in 2015, and the free trade patterns have changed, mainly due to increasing uncertainties in government policies, which affect the global finance and trade. In terms of investment, the 2016 capital market of pharmaceu-ticals has obviously shrunk, in that the case number for capital investment, merger and acquisition (M&A), and technology transfer, as well as the total transaction value, are all lower than those of 2015. On the one hand, the aging population and unfulfilled medical needs have led to increasing demands for innovative breakthrough drugs. On the other hand, increasing healthcare burden due to population aging has led to more stringent cost control of medical expense as top priority for healthcare policy in many countries.
