As people get old, their body functions decline, and organs become degenerative or even disabled. For example, the important physiological functions required for daily lives such as, movement, hearing and eyesight will gradually become degenerative. Those with high severity may lose their independent living ability, leading to a vicious circle by affecting their social participation and activity willingness. Taiwan is facing a population aging problem. According to the population estimation made by National Development Council, Executive Yuan, Taiwan has officially stepped into an aging society since 1993, i.e. the population of people over age 65 accounts for 7%. It is estimated that in 2018, the population of aged people will exceed 14%, coming to an aged society. It takes only 25 years from an aging society to an aged society. The aging rate is faster than that in other advanced countries. In 2025, Taiwan will officially step into a super-aged society. The population of aged people will exceed 20%. While in the aging process, hearing degeneration will come along, thus bringing a growing demand for hearing assistive devices.
