The petrochemical industry refers to the industry that manufactures chemicals using petroleum, natural gas, coal and shale gas as raw materials. Its products are known as petrochemicals. According to the Standard Industrial Classification System of the Republic of China, the petrochemical industry comprises three sub-industries that include industry class code-1810 Manufacture of Chemical Materials, class code-1841 Manufacture of Plastic Materials, and class code-1842 Manufacture of Synthetic Rubber. The combined outputs of these three sub-industries comprise the total output value of the petrochemical industry of Taiwan.
